I Think I’m in Love
A love poem about the moment ordinary days feel extraordinary, and loving love becomes loving someone.
I think I’m in love.
Not because the stars shine brighter,Or because the moon has changed its glow,But because the most ordinary momentsFeel extraordinary when you’re close.
I think I’m in love.
Because somewhere between your laughterAnd the softness of your smile,My heart began collecting momentsI wish could last a little while.
And isn’t it strange?
How someone can enter your lifeWithout moving a single thing,Yet suddenly, the world feels different,As though winter has mistaken itself for spring.
I think I’m in love.
For I have begun to find youIn the smallest parts of my day,In songs that have nothing to do with you,In words I never thought to say.
I want to know your quiet mornings,The dreams you whisper to the night,The things that make your heart feel heavy,And everything that brings it light.
I want the beauty of your laughter,But also the weight of your tears,To love you beyond the lovely seasons,Through all the changing years.
And perhaps this is what frightens me,How naturally you’ve found your place,How my heart, once so careful,Now longs for your embrace.
For I’ve always loved the idea of love,The poetry, the flowers, the possibility.
But now, I think I understand the differenceBetween loving loveAnd loving somebody.
Because for the first time,When I imagine all the beautiful thingsLife has yet to give,I don’t just picture a beautiful life.
I picture you in it.
And God, I think I’m in love.
